Outgoing President Rev. Liz Bidgood Enders Reflects on Her Service

When I was asked to serve as President of the board, I agreed to do so with an awareness that the Pennsylvania Council of Churches’ future was far from certain. I didn’t know if this body could endure, but my goal was to give it as much of a chance as possible to not only survive but continue to be a vital ministry for the Commonwealth. As I prepare to end my time as President, the future remains uncertain. However, I have witnessed the strengths of staff members, who have used their time, energies, and talents to serve the member bodies and the people of Pennsylvania with devotion and passion. I am especially grateful for Jan for taking on responsibilities of Executive Director in addition to her work with Finance and Facilities, and Sandy, who has represented the Pennsylvania Council of Churches in visible ways as she advocates for issues that promote justice, human need, and good stewardship of resources. Thank you as well to Dai Morgan, who has shared his gifts for administration and collaborative ministry by serving as a Bridge Executive Director.  Most of all, I am grateful for the spiritual gifts, offering of time, patience, and devotion of board and committees/commission members through numerous and long meetings to work through important issues of discernment and action. I am eager to witness the vision and work of a new Executive Director and President, who will further shape the Pennsylvania Council of Churches.  While I don’t know what the future will hold, and there are certainly challenges ahead, I am hopeful for this body that continues to gather parts of the Body of Christ through denominations, judicatories, and other groupings to uplift and uphold Christian values of service, stewardship, spiritual growth, addressing human needs, and equipping disciples. As I step down from this position, my prayers continue for the Spirit of God to continue to guide and shape the Council and all who are connected to it.
