Interfaith Gatherings on Confronting Christian Nationalism: Questions for Faith Leaders & Communities

The Pennsylvania Council of Churches is collaborating with communities of faith in Central Pennsylvania to learn more about the dangers of Christian Nationalism and work together to oppose this threat to both our religious communities and our democracy. We are planning a series of gatherings beginning in 2025. The gatherings may be organized as a community-wide book club, reading “The False White Gospel” by Jim Wallis. Some grant money may be available to help cover the cost of books and/or meals. We would also like invite our interfaith partners. We are hoping you might be interested in joining us as an organizer, helping us to plan the details of our gatherings. Or, if you are unable to assist with organizing, we would be grateful for you to invite the members of your faith community to participate. It is anticipated that the book study will begin in January 2025.

To that end, we have several questions for you:

  • Would you be interested in joining the leadership team for this program, helping to plan our gatherings?
  • Would you be willing to host a gathering at your house of worship/in your community?
  • How frequently would you/your faith community like to meet? (E.g., weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, etc.)
  • What time of day would work best for you/your faith community to meet? (E.g., mornings, afternoons, evenings, etc.)
  • What days of the week would work best for you/your faith community to meet? Are there any days of the week that would entirely preclude you from participating?
  • Would the inclusion of a meal make you/your community more or less likely to participate?
  • Would your faith community be comfortable in a mixed gender gathering?
  • Is there any other information that you think would be helpful for us to know as we plan this program?
